The Weekly Edit 6.27

the weekly edit 6.27

Hey, friends! Welcome to The Weekly Edit 6.27. I’m excited about this one for a lot of reasons. First of all, it showcases two of my favorite summer dresses which I’m convinced everyone should own (and I’m buying in multiple colors). Secondly, I have another bonus outfit which just so happens to be a beautiful dress perfect for summer weddings, black tie events, and, thinking ahead, holiday parties. It’s just that pretty and I can’t wait to share it with you.

As always, I am so appreciative of the support and love you give me every time I start one of these new segments on a whim. I love this community we’ve created and how you keep showing up, without fail. It means more to me than I can state in words. And also, as always, if you have something you want to see, let me know. Tutorials on makeup or hair? (believe it or not, I had a request for both this weekend–shocking, I know). More dressy? More casual? Drop me a line! I’ll do it, I promise!

But in the meantime, let’s get to the looks, shall we?

Monday: Casual Staples With A Twist

It’s an established fact by now that I love a good white button-down shirt. If I had a uniform, it would absolutely include one, and I love how they can dress up even the simplest look. Take this outfit, for example, if I was wearing a plain white tee it would be fine, simple, but fine. But adding in a white button-down (tied for a little bit of something something) elevates this outfit and makes it look effortlessly chic.

Tuesday: Green with(out) Envy

Green has always been my favorite color. It makes me happy. It makes me think of plants. It reminds me of my inner hippie and all the Earth things. Yet, despite my love of this color, I very rarely wore it. That is, until I started following Outfit Formulas and was pushed out of my grey comfort zone. So now I love it–this shirt is no exception. I love everything about this outfit–the cut of this bright shirt, the comfy denim paper bag shorts, the purse I shared in last week’s WIDW, and my favorite gold sandals this summer.

Wednesday: Summer Biz Casual

Normally, summer days for me are as causal as I can make them without staying in my jammies all day. But on Wednesday I had a meeting that required a bit more of me, like actual clothes. So that meant summer biz casual, as best I could do it. I love how this look turned out. The leopard skirt is pull-on, comfortable, and something that can be dressed down or dressed up. With heels and a black top it would be perfect for a dressy night out, paired with denim and sandals it’s the perfect summer day look. Grab it, for sure, it’s a seasonless staple and one I think y’all should definitely have in your closet.

Thursday: Summer Dress STAPLES (Part 1)

This dress from Amazon is a WINNER, y’all. An absolute winner. It’s super flattering (more so even than this picture shows). The ruching across the stomach is a forgiver of a multitude of midlife sins, and it’s fully lined. I love it in this stripe but am also ordering it in my closet staple black AND the green I have fallen in love with so dearly. I love throwing this on for days when I’m working from home but want to be a bit dressed up because it’s so stinking comfortable you also feel like you’re wearing jammies when you slip it on. Get it, ladies. It’s budget-friendly, gorgeous, and will make you feel like 1 bazillion bucks.

Friday: Summer Dress STAPLES (Part 2)

If you do not live in Texas there is one thing you must know, it is hotter than Hades here. I’ve lived many other places in my life–Atlanta, NYC, California, Maryland–and nowhere else have I ever felt heat like there is here. It is an entity, a personality all on its own. It hits you in the face when you walk outside and will take your breath right out of your body if you’re not prepared for it. All of this is to say, it’s freaking hot and we have to dress accordingly. That’s where this awesome maxi dress comes in. With a flowy, forgiving cut, a slit on both sides to let the air in, and availability in a ton of different colors, this is something all hot weather ladies need for those 100+ degree days. But, really, everyone should have it. I’m grabbing it in black and maybe a pattern too, I love it that much.

Saturday: Neutral City

Saturdays for me are usually calm and chill. I run hard during the week–as a carpool mom (I talk about that here), a work-at-home mom, and someone who tries to put some real life in between these things. So casual is the name of the game for my chill weekend days. I love how this easy neutral look is comfortable and put together while fitting perfectly into my relaxed Saturday. This top is from one of my favorite small local boutiques, The Glam Gypsy, and isn’t available anymore but I found one that’s similar. And, in full disclosure, the Birks are my daughter’s that I stole. Because we wear the same size now and I can. So there’s that.

Sunday: Special Occasion Perfection

Oh, y’all, I cannot sing the praises of this gorgeous dress enough. I found it on Amazon of all places (just like my famous pink dress from last week), and I am so glad I moved beyond the somewhat “meh” reviews and snagged it. This dress is gorgeous in person. The color is a deep emerald and the fabric is a surprisingly thick satin which hides lots of sins. The ruching across the front gives you a wickedly small waist, and the one-shoulder is on-trend, dramatic, and show-stopping. The slit seems a bit intimidating, but it’s actually lined so there isn’t really a chance of a peep show unless you really work at it. I LOVE this dress and received so many compliments when I wore it to Kenzie’s gymnastics banquet. If you have a wedding, event, or even a holiday party on the horizon, grab it. Side note: order a size up because the waist has no give, and make sure to have a steamer because it comes wrinkled as all get out but steams perfectly. Also, it doesn’t have a strap-hanger on the non-sleeved side, so it’s kind of a pain to hang. But that’s a minor complaint about such a gorgeous dress on a budget.

One-Shoulder Dress / Shoes (vintage Gucci from my closet–aren’t they gorg?)

PS: In full disclosure, I wore jammies up until the very moment I put this dress on so I don’t have a “casual” look for Sunday. But the jammies I LOVE are coming in this week’s WIDW, so keep your eyes open for them!

Thanks for checking out this week’s Weekly Edit. I hope you found something to fall in love with.

Peace, love, and outfits,
Meg
