Happy 1st What I’m Digging Wednesday 1.5 of the year, friends! Can you believe we made it? It’s 2022??

Maybe finally we can all breathe a sigh of relief, put our sane hats back on our heads, and get it right. After two long years of chaos and life-changing unprecedented events, I sure hope so.

After a few weeks of the kids being home for break, a COVID scare (and now COVID reality), and lots of rest and relaxation, I’m so ready to get back into the swing of things. I’m truly excited about this year and what it will bring. I feel energized and motivated, ready to get started. My word for the year, after all, is BECOME and I chose it because I have big goals for myself both business-wise and personally and I am chomping at the bit to get started on them.

That being said, this list of What I’m Digging Wednesday 1.5 is a good one, filled with the perfect book to begin my yearly Goodreads challenge, my new favorite shoes, a 30 day Yoga refresh I’d love for you to join me on, and a miracle hair product that changed the hair of a few Dawson family members.

It’s a good one, friends, so buckle up and get excited ’cause here we go!

  1. Rothy’s Drivers in Clementine: I don’t know if this ages me, but I love a good loafer. Not quite a ballerina flat, loafers (or drivers) elicit thoughts of Katherine Hepburn and old world, classic style. They are universally chic, with almost a Parisian vibe that I am obsessed with, and they are comfortable, too. Which I’m sure has helped their longevity in the otherwise fleeting world of fashion. But as much as I love loafers, I also want my shoes to have a little punch to them so as not to be boring and dated. Enter in my brand new Rothy’s Drivers in Clementine. Y’all, these were waiting under the tree for me from Santa (ie: Jeff) and I am obsessed. The classic driver style, with the tread to the back of the heel, in a bright and punchy red that really pops PLUS the comfort and sustainability of a ROTHY? Oh sisters, I am IN! I love these shoes so much they have been on repeat since I unwrapped them. If red isn’t your jam, they come in a multitude of different colors, and oh my gosh, you just need them. Also, with THIS LITTLE CODE you get $20 off your purchase (and gift me $20 too), so what’s not to love about gifting yourself a new pair of classics? Nothing, I tell you. There is NOTHING not to love about it. Find the loafers HERE but don’t forget to use this CODE at checkout.

  2. Joyful by Ingrid Fetell Lee: Technically, this book could have been on my list of the best books of 2021 because I read most of it before the clock ticked to midnight on the 31st. But, given that I didn’t finish it until January 2nd, I decided to leave it off of that list and add it to this one. And, frankly, it makes sense to add to this list because it is the perfect book to start a new year with. This book is about JOY. But, more specifically, it is about the science behind joy, how we find joy, and what we find joy IN. It really digs deep into what is missing in our modern lives and how we can reclaim it within our own spaces and our own worlds, without big travel or extravagant changes. It sparked something in me, this book. And left me with this feeling that somehow along the way we started to do things wrong. Like, focus on the wrong things and emphasizing the wrong parts of our lives (like success and achievement over art and play). It’s because of this book that I decided to take up watercolor painting and it’s because of this book that I have invested in even more houseplants, much to Jeff’s chagrin. Such a great read if you’re just feeling like something is missing in your life but you can’t quite put your finger on it or even if you feel like everything is just fine, but maybe you could use something more. I highly recommend you pop this one on your reading list for 2022. Grab your copy from Amazon HERE (or find it at your local bookstore–not necessarily a library read for me).

  3. The 30-Day MOVE Yoga Challenge by Yoga with Adriene: I found Adriene on YouTube a few years ago when I was looking for an at-home yoga to do in-between my harder workouts, and once I found her, I fell in love. This Austinite is chill, fun, quirky, and a darn good yoga instructor, yes, even on the internet and not in an actual class. Since finding her I’ve periodically jumped into one of her classes online when I’ve needed a good stretch or just a zen moment. But lately, my harder workouts just aren’t working for me anymore. Maybe it’s because life is stressful enough so my workouts shouldn’t be. Or maybe it’s just because the older we get, the more low impact we need. But I’ve become more and more drawn to slower flow workouts with less pounding and more mindful movement. So when I scrolled past an Instagram post with this challenge, I was intrigued. Keeping with my JOYFUL entrance into 2022 and my word of the year, BECOME, I figured a 30-day Yoga journey would be an incredible way to start the year. Each workout is roughly 30 minutes and is progressive, meaning Adriene is a master of moving you through difficulty levels without excess stress on the body or the mind. I love the flow of each so far (I’m 3 workouts in) and hope to finish all 30 concurrently, supplementing with my long Macy walks along the way. I feel as if there is no better way to reset my life and soul than to start each day, and the first month of the year, with Adriene’s guidance into breath and flow. Her workouts are totally free and available to all on YouTube. Drop me a message if you’re joining the 30-day challenge. I’d love to have an accountability partner!

  4. dpHUE Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse: About a month ago, I noticed that two of the Dawson children seemed to be suffering from an epidemic of greasy, flaky scalp. Being kids, they neither noticed nor cared, but I did and it bothered me. I had nightmares of mean bully-children pointing at their head, laughing, and chanting “dandruff! dandruff!” And it was keeping me up at night. OK. Maybe a slight exaggeration, but it was troublesome. After doing a bit of research into the WHYS of it (a deadly combo of hormones, hard water, and build-up of kids shampoo) I learned that Apple Cider is beneficial for both scalp and hair help and a good rinse would help clear up both the greasy and flaky situations we had going on. This rinse came highly recommended from multiple websites, so even with the hefty price tag, I pulled the trigger. Y’all, I wanted those nightmares and my flakes GONE. Well, hefty price tag and all, this product is a miracle worker and worth every penny. After a few rinses, both issues on both children were almost completely remedied. Hair that was limp and gross was now light and beautiful. It felt clean. And there were no flakes to be found. A true believer, I even decided to try it on myself and loved how my hair felt. Even without the compounding issues my kids were having, it is a great idea to clarify our hair once a month or so, and this rinse is the way to do it. You won’t smell like a walking cider press and your hair will feel silky and glorious for days. Well worth it. I promise. Grab yours HERE
