embracing your inner hippie

We all have an inner hippie somewhere. I’m convinced of it. Black, white, male, female, liberal, and (yes) conservative, we all have a desire on some level to connect to the Earth. In this section, we’re going to start embracing our inner hippie, BurntToast style by talking about everything from composting to gardening to finding Earth-Friendly products.

On a personal level, my journey to embracing my inner hippie has been a slow crawl spanning all of my 40-something years. My mom was one of the original Earth mothers, making our baby food long before it was cool. I followed in her footsteps and did the same, shopping at The San Clemente Farmer’s Market with two little babes in tow loving every second of chatting with farmers, touching the produce, feeling connected to the food that I was feeding my growing boys.

I even, once we moved to Texas, started a garden. Sure, it wasn’t successful, but I tried.

I’ve always leaned more towards vegan or plant-based diets, oftentimes more because of how it makes me feel than the effects on the planet. But those certainly are a by-product. And I’ve always loved using as many Earth-friendly products as I can for all aspects of personal care and healthy and beauty.

Has it been a linear journey? No. Not at all. Has it been perfect? Not even close.

But I try.

And that’s where this section is rooted. The journey. We won’t get it right all the time, but as long as we’re embracing the journey and trying every time we can to do better, then we’re on our way.

I can’t wait to share this journey with you. Promise me you will keep an open mind. We’re going to learn new things together. And have fun doing it.

Peace, love, and good Earth vibes,
Meg
