Oh boy, friends, you are in for a TREAT with this one–What I’m Digging Wednesday Mother’s Day Edition! I am so excited to share it with you I almost couldn’t sleep last night as I was creating the list over and over and over in my head, making sure I didn’t miss anyone or any amazing gifts that I think moms everywhere would love and adore.

Obviously, this is a special one for me, being both a mom myself and also having a mom I adore (who I will be spending Mother’s Day with for the first time in probably 20 years!) and a mother-in-law who is incredible and I love dearly. I love this holiday for all that it encompasses, celebrating the moms in our lives, both biological and not, for the impressions that they have left on our hearts and our souls.

As a caveat, though, I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge that for many this is a very difficult holiday. For those who have lost their mothers, either recently or long ago (the pain never really goes away) this is a deeply painful day, even if they are mothers themselves. For those whose mothers were not loving or those whose relationships are rife with pitfalls and fractures, this is also a reminder of what is missing. And that is heartbreaking in its own right.

To those who are in this category, I see you. There isn’t much I can say or do that will ease the pain of this day, I just want to acknowledge your pain. That is all. And say that I am sorry for your loss, your hurt, and your heartbreak. I see you.

Now, as for the list, I tried very hard to find unique gifts in this one, things you won’t find at Target or Amazon. Not that there is anything wrong with that, it’s just that I think mom deserves something a bit more personal and well thought out. I also tried to find something for everyone. So hopefully there is something here that will light your heart on fire.

At the end of the day, though, I also know that sometimes all moms want is an acknowledgment of what they do and a true day of appreciation and rest. I wrote about this last year in THIS post, and it was well-received if not a bit controversial. It’s worth a read, if not just to get an understanding of that deep and invisible weight many moms (and some dads) carry for their families.

And without further adieu, here is What I’m Digging Wednesday Mother’s Day Edition!

What I’m Digging Wednesday Mother’s Day Edition–for the fashionably-conscious mom

what i'm digging wednesday mothers day edition

  • ABLE Denim Jacket: If there is one fashion company that speaks to women, it is ABLE. This brand started by selling handmade scarves woven by women coming out of the sex trade in Ethiopia. With that, the mission grew, and now ABLE is able (yup, punny) to outfit women and men from head to toe in items that are made by and empower women. And, they make amazing things. For the mom who loves fashion but is conscious of where it comes from, there is nothing better or more cult-beloved than the ABLE denim jacket. Perfectly fitting. Beautifully made. Your mom/wife/sister/mother-in-law will wear this again. And again. And again. I promise. Grab it HERE.
  • VRAI Diamond Studs:  What mom doesn’t want diamond studs? I haven’t polled the world, but I honestly don’t think there is one. Or, at least I want some. In fact, they are almost always on my list at every holiday. Which Jeff completely ignores. But, hey, that’s another story. The thing that is so amazing about VRAI, though, is that all VRAI diamonds are sustainably created for guilt-free enjoyment. They are crafted from greenhouse gas crystallized in their foundry in America. Once crystallized, the greenhouse gas can no longer go make the atmosphere reflect heat and warm the planet. Each carat helps save the climate (1). I mean, what can be bad about that? So you can feel good about purchasing and wearing these gorgeous studs and that is what I call fashion with a conscience. Grab yours HERE.
  • The Little Market Hoop Earrings: Just like diamond studs, hoop earrings are a classic staple in any fashion-conscious woman’s wardrobe. I wear my hoops every single day, without fail. But what I love about these particular hoops is that The Little Market, similar to ABLE, is a non-profit fair-trade shop featuring ethically sourced, artisan-made products. Behind each of our products is a person who created it and a story. And that, dear friends, makes these hoops a classic piece you can wear with pride. These particular hoops are handmade in Cambodia and empowers women there to have fair and dignified employment. SO huge. I strongly suggest shopping all of the Little Market if you can, but for your fashion-focused moms, these hoops are a big WIN.
  • The Glam Gypsy Gift Cards: Shopping small is always one of my favorite ways to do things and I have made no secret of my adoration for my friend Stacy’s shop, The Glam Gypsy. She has the best style and picks the most amazing, unique pieces for her collection. If you don’t know what to get for your wife/mom, grab a gift card! You can never go wrong that way!
  • ABLE Try Before You Buy Box: One of the best Mother’s Day gifts Jeff ever gave me was a trip to the mall where he said “Just go buy yourself new clothes.” He knew I was struggling with style and adjusting to my new SAHM lifestyle and gave me a carte blanch to upgrade my wardrobe. Want to do that for your wife but with a conscience? ABLE has a “try before you buy” box where you can put any 8 amazing pieces in a box to come to her for her own personal try-on sesh. I just ordered one and cannot wait for it to show up. If your wife is feeling down about her closet, send her on a fun scavenger hunt on the website and let the box show up for her Mother’s Day. It will be fun and so considerate, showing that you think she’s beautiful and want her to feel that way too.

What I’m Digging Wednesday Mother’s Day Edition–The Plant, Book, and Crafting Mom

  • Uncommon Goods First Edition Book Cover Print: Like The Little Market and ABLE, Uncommon Goods is a shop you’ll see pop up a few times in this post. This collective of artisan, crafters and unique gifts is the place to go for a special holiday like Mother’s Day. If you want your mom to gasp with delight when she opens her gift, check out this shop. You are bound to find something amazing there, like this amazing First Edition Book Cover Print, the perfect gift for book lovers like me. Made from high-quality scans of first edition covers from tons of classic works of literature, this is a gorgeous print that will truly show your mom or wife that you get her. (hint, hint). With multiple book covers to choose from, you’re bound to find her favorite here. And honestly, this is a classy piece of art to hang on any wall. The quintessential book lover gift. I highly recommend it. Find all the selections HERE.
  • The Gardeners Harvest Basket: Have a mom who loves to garden? Does she pick all her fruits, veggies, and flowers, and lug them into the house in an old laundry basket or her bare arms? Let’s change that. This thoughtful gift is a gorgeous harvest basket, perfect for anything she can grow and pick herself. A work of art in itself, it would look beautiful on a shelf or patio, while also being a highly functional and thoughtful gift. I mean, I wouldn’t mind one. #justsaying For your gardener mom, this is a surefire WIN. Grab it HERE.
  • Uncommon Goods Knitting Caddy and Yarn Bowl: I happen to have a mom who is a master knitter. I have tried to convince her to open an Etsy shop or at least sell some of her amazing goods. To no avail. But, that doesn’t change the fact that knitting is one of her favorite things to do. It calms her down when she’s stressed and helps her relax at the end of the day. I can still see her knitting while sitting in her favorite spot on her couch. This gorgeous knitting caddy sure would be an upgrade from her canvas bag, wouldn’t it? Made by a master potter, this handcrafted bowl from Uncommon Goods is a thoughtful, practical, and gorgeous way to tell your knitting mom, “I see you.” Grab it HERE.
  • The World of Jane Austen Puzzle: For years my absolute favorite book was Pride and Prejudice. I have read it so many times that my original copy, which was at one time my mom’s, is now falling apart and relegated to my “antique books” shelf in the living room, never to be read again. The thing is, I’m not unique. Many book-loving women cut their teeth on Austen’s works, falling in love with her character development, witty dialogue, and feminist themes. So, this fun puzzle is a subtle nod to your book-loving wife’s first literary love. It’s also a great find for the kids to give their mom, too, because it’s budget-friendly. This is personal and unique and I, for one, love it. Get it HERE.
  • Potting Bench: OK. OK. I said no Amazon links, but this one’s personal, alright? I couldn’t resist. And trust me, I looked at all the small shops first. Y’all. I really want a potting bench. There. I said it. A nice, sturdy piece of furniture so I’m not repotting plants on the outdoor patio table or, somewhat more painful yet less gross, the ground which requires these old bones to get up from the ground. And, well, that’s just not pretty. Plus, I need storage on the patio for all my pots and bags of dirt and all the things. So this one’s for me. Do we think Jeff is reading? Probably not. Could someone do me a solid then and send this his way? I’d really appreciate it. (only kinda kidding). Find the potting bench of my dreams HERE.

What I’m Digging Wednesday Mother’s Day Edition for the sporty, traveling, drink-y moms

  • The Little Market Leather Passport Holder: This handmade passport holder is perfect for the mom who loves to travel all over the globe. Made by artisans in Kenya, this is another great find from The Little Market. A thoughtful gift when maybe paired with, I don’t know, a trip somewhere fabulous or a fancy new AWAY suitcase which basically rolls itself right on down the airport, it’s a great conscience gift for the traveling mom who has everything but likes personal touches to all her gifts. Grab yours HERE.
  • The Girlfriend Collective Reset Scoop Neck Jumpsuit: Of all the categories (that I completely made up), I had the hardest time finding something a sporty/athletic mom would like. Mostly because I am not, in any way, a sporty or athletic mom. Workout gear seemed like a cop-out because if you’re sporty you’ve already got that. Plus, I love me my TROOP wear and have already shared the heck out of that brand. But, a soft post-workout onesie jumpsuit, that’s something I think all sporty moms (and non-sporty ones, too) can get behind. The Girlfriend Collective is another small brand I stand behind because they are eco-friendly and their fit is amazing. A little on the pricey side, they rival LuLu, but with a conscience. And that, is of course, an obsession of mine. This jumpsuit is made from recycled heavyweight jersey, it is soft as a feather and, wait for it, it has POCKETS. Every mom would love this, so grab it HERE.
  • Chamberlin Coffee Cold Brew Starter Kit: Coffee drinking moms, rejoice! I have found the perfect gift set for you and your incessant desire for cold coffee in cute cups–this Chamberlin Cold Brew Starter Kit! This adorable kit features the cutest Mason Jar Cold Brew Mug, a Stainless Steel Straw, and Cold Brew Starter Pack (with 10 coffee steeped packs). I mean, it’s the cutest thing EVER. Rumor has it that this brand was started by a YouTuber (info courtesy of my 11-year-old) and while I’m not big on the YouTube world, I loved this cute brand before I knew that and am not going to stop now. Not a cold brew fan? They’ve also got a great Matcha Set with a frother (holla) that any tea lover would love. Check out the cold brew set and browse all of the amazing coffee-inspired stuff at Chamberlin for your coffee-obsessed momma this Mother’s Day.
  • Uncommon Goods Craft Cocktail Kit: Who doesn’t love a good old craft cocktail made AT HOME? I mean, I do! I love going out and getting a fancy drink at a fancy place, but honestly, I usually don’t want to get out of my sweatpants by the time it’s acceptable to make a cocktail and I also am cheap enough that $15 for a basic mixer doesn’t seem appealing. A sure sign I’m old, but whatever. But for the mom who loves a cute cocktail, this is just a fun one. With your choice of nine different cocktails that all sound pretty fun and delicious, you can’t go wrong with this kit. I’d be partial to Nalani’s Adventure or the Dragon Tears, but that’s just me. You provide the base spirit, the rest comes in this kit. Perfect for a date night in for your wife and her girls, this is fun, cute, and just a thoughtful gift. Grab yours HERE.
  • Obvious Wines The Entire Collection: Your wife is not a craft cocktail drinker? More of a wine girl? I’ve got you. Obvious Wines is an eco-friendly, boutique wine brand created by a former wine-snob from France. So, yeah, they’re good and good for the planet. (and vegan too). If your wife or mom is a wine drinker who also cares about what she puts in her body, this is a great collection to get her started on a better-for-her brand of wines that is also delicious. Love this bundle because it has something for everyone and features all of their best sellers. Grab it and surprise her with a special night with her and her besties, meal, girl movies, popcorn, and wine. I can guarantee you’ll be in the “hero” category for a while. Get your selection HERE.

What I’m Digging Wednesday Mother’s Day Edition, for moms everywhere

Because not all moms fit in a category and sometimes you just want to grab something meaningful, this is the section for you. If your mom loves to cook and makes soups and stews that bring you back to your childhood, this Made In Dutch Oven is a splurge she probably won’t make for herself, but one she will love. Made for cooks, by cooks, it’s a top-quality pan. Show her you love her by sharing your favorite things about her in this What I Love About My Mom book (also super budget-friendly). Or give her the gift of self-care with this amazing set of self-care goodies! Or build a gorgeous gift basket curated especially for your mom at The Little Market. With categories for every mom, you can custom select what goes in it. But, my absolute favorite of this group is the ‘For the Moms Here In Memory” selection because it acknowledges the loss of a mom and is a wonderful way to help your wife, significant other, or anyone keep their mom close on this hard day for them.

You can always just shop Uncommon Goods, The Little Market, or ABLE to find something that you are sure the moms in your life will love, while also shopping small, consciously, and ethically.

Whew! This was a lot! I know. But there really isn’t a one-size Mother’s Day gift because there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all mom and I really wanted to try and find something for everyone from unique places you might not know about. That’s what this whole series is about, after all.

My hope is that you fall in love with something on this list or see something that is perfect for your mom. I know I did.

Now stay tuned, because next week we’ve got a fun new type of Wednesday list focusing on the men in our lives. It’s going to be a little quirky, a little weird, and definitely different. But I can almost guarantee it won’t be boring.

Until then…

Peace, love, and Wednesdays,

Meg
