What I’m Digging Wednesday 12.1

what i'm digging wednesday 12.1

Hey, Friends! Happy December 1st and welcome to What I’m Digging Wednesday 12.1.

I am so excited about this edition today. There have been so many things I’ve been digging lately it’s honestly been kind of hard for me to choose which ones to start with for this holiday month, but I did the dirty work and gathered together 4 of my most favorites to share with you today.

In this list we have a pair of mule loafers that I am wearing on repeat because they are comfortable and on point, a book that has literally (and I mean it this time) changed everything about my fashion life and given me so much confidence when it comes to getting dressed each day, the cuticle oil that has saved my hands from looking like an anxious 4-year olds, and the cheap Target sweater that I have in multiple colors because it is the softest winter basic you all need in your wardrobe.

Sounds good, right?

Well let’s get started then…

what i'm digging wednesday 12.1

  1. The Ultimate Book of Outfit Formulas by Alison Lumbatis: Y’all, I have so much to say about this book. So.Dang.Much. That I can’t fit it all in one little paragraph for a What I’m Digging Wednesday 12.1 post. So, I’ll be sharing more about the Oprah-Esque Ah-Ha moments this gave me when I read it for the first time (yes, there have been multiple reads already) in my post this Friday with my very favorite lentil soup recipe. However, for the purposes of this quick Wednesday recap, I’ll just say this book has reminded me that getting dressed EVERY DAY changes my mindset in a million ways both large and small. It has reminded me that looking good doesn’t need to be hard or a chore, but instead, it’s a gift I can give myself. AND, probably most importantly, this book contains outfit formulas (yes, actual outfit formulas with pictures and checklists) to make getting dressed head to toe in an outfit that actually WORKS effortless. For real. EVERY WOMAN NEEDS THIS BOOK. I cannot say it again, but I’ll scream it for the people in the cheap seats: EVERY WOMAN NEEDS THIS BOOK. No matter what you think about fashion (remember, I used to actually work in New York for designers in the fashion industry and still needed this little style bible) this book will give you the tools and confidence you need to get dressed each day and feel your best. Normally I recommend the library for books, you know this. But this is one you need to own so you can check off the checklists, dogear your favorite outfits, and go back again and again like a resource book. Trust me on this one. Grab yours HERE.

  2. Brown Suede Tassel Mules: So while we’re on the topic of getting dressed each day, I thought it would make sense to share a pair of shoes that help me get dressed each day in something that feels like slippers but looks a smidge better. Or more than a smidge. Who’s counting? Anyway, I snagged these mules off of Amazon because they were super cheap and I have been wanting a pair of neutral mules for a while now. I didn’t know what to expect and was more than a little nervous when they showed up on my doorstep in an Amazon bag with no box. However, what they lacked in the packaging they make up for in how often I wear them. The tassels make them fun, because, let’s face it, wearing tassels is pretty much only acceptable on your feet nowadays but that doesn’t change the fun factor at all. Not only fun, but these netural-colored slides are also comfortable, easy to wear with almost any pant, and look like you tried a whole lot harder than you actually did. They’re not quality like my Birdies or Gucci loafers (circa 2004 and still going), but I highly recommend these for a cheap pair of flats you’ll use for a season or two and then toss. Snag yours HERE (I recommend going a one-half size up so your foot doesn’t look like it’s falling off the back of your shoe).

  3. Target A New Day Lightweight Crewneck Sweater: Still on the topic of fashion, this little sweater is the perfect layering piece for winter and it is a complete steal–like super cheap. I love that I can wear this one under a blazer or a jacket and not feel bulked up. I love how soft it is and the flattering length–long enough to front-tuck but not too long to create a lot of bulk in the back. And I love that it is under $20 and comes in a huge long list of colors. I bought my first two to help fill out my outfit formulas for fall and winter (black and camel). At the time, they were $20 each. Then, because Target apparently loves me enough to send me actual reminders straight to my phone, I saw that they were on sale for Black Friday for $10 and I got two more (burgundy and teal). Now, the last I checked they were back up to a whopping $14 apiece, but still, these are a complete steal and you need as many as you can get your hands on. Go grab yours QUICKLY because they are selling out fast. Here’s a link (non-affiliate, just love them) you can use for quick access.

  4. Holler and Glow Cuticle Oil: One thing you might not know about me is I am a terrible nail-biter. I have been for my entire life, as long as I can remember. My nails are a hot mess, and I’m not using that term lightly. It’s actually embarrassing how bad they are and how much I try to hide them from people. The only time in my entire life I did not bite my nails was a short six-month period right before COVID where I was fed up enough to spend the money to get my nails done. This was great and kept me from biting them, but then COVID came around and kept me out of the salons just long enough to go back to my old nasty habit. But, when I say that the Outfit Formula book has seeped into so many different areas of my life, this is another one. I decided after reading it that I don’t want to be embarrassed by anything I can control about my appearance. I want to be bigger than any nasty habit (yes, even one that is 42 years old). I don’t want to bite them anymore. So I just stopped. Or, more accurately, I am stopping. Because it’s not a one-and-done process, habit breaking. So, instead, I’m working on it by painting my nails as often as needed to keep me from biting them AND by using this gorgeous Coconut-infused cuticle oil multiple times each day to keep my cuticles from getting jagged, which is an invitation to pick and bite like none other. I love how easy this goes on and how quickly it absorbs so I’m not tied up with oily hands for an hour. It smells lovely and has truly helped even my most crusty cuticles soften up to the point of looking almost normal. The next thing I’m trying out is the Olive and June nail kit so I’ll keep you posted on that one. But in the meantime, grab your little bottle of goodness HERE and join me as we break this nasty habit once and for all.

I hope you all find something to love in this quick little list of things I’m digging right now. And please, please, go buy the book. If you’re struggling with confidence and stuck in a sweatpant rut, please do it. If you need more convincing, be sure to check out Friday’s post and recipe where I’ll share my own story about how it nearly brought me to tears and gave me a big lesson in taking up space that has been SO needed in my life. But in the meantime, go snag yours. I promise it will change so much about your mindset and maybe even your life.

Peace, love, and Wednesdays,
Meg
