What I’m Digging Wednesday 4.14

Hey Guyzzz…welcome back to What I’m Digging Wednesday 4.14 edition.

This week I’ve got a life-changing facial peel that actually peels your face in an oddly satisfying way, a local non-profit aimed at educating people about racism and racial bias, a humidifier (I’ll explain why), and my absolute favorite local restaurant that is re-opening its doors this weekend.

I mean, nothing like bringing you the quirky weird stuff I like in the most random of ways, AMIRIGHT?

Anyway, thanks again for playing along and loving this fun segment as much as I do. You’ve made Wednesday like the new Friday and that’s amazing in and of itself. It’s a joy to bring you new products and businesses you might not know about and introduce you to some of my favorite people doing awesome things, both here in Frisco and beyond.

  1. The Heritage Table: The Heritage Table has been, for years, my favorite Frisco restaurant. Located right in the heart of downtown in the most beautiful old Victorian home with a giant covered porch, twinkle lights (which are my love language), and old hardwood floors, it has all the “old world” charm I’m obsessed with and want to make my own. But aside from its undeniable curb appeal, this farm-to-table/craft kitchen restaurant speaks my foodie language as well. Through my time with Lifestyle Frisco, I’ve been able to get to know Rich Vana, the head chef/owner of the Table, and friends, this guy is food personified. Not only is he the coolest chef in town with a wicked nerdy sense of humor that speaks my language, but he is crazy about food, like to the most passionate and obsessed degree you can imagine. And the menu exemplifies this passion and attention to detail in ways beyond my foodie dreams. Candied bacon. Homemade rolls. Craft cocktails. Homemade pimento cheese. Y’all. It’s ALL good. During quarantine, Rich made the heartbreaking decision to shut Heritage Table down until it was safe for him to reopen with full occupancy. Lucky for us, this was just a temporary decision, and he is reopening this weekend with his full menu. Y’all. I’m so stinking excited to welcome this local jem back to town. Join me on opening night (or any night after) and support one of our favorites so that they can stay open and bless us with charm and foodie deliciousness for years to come. Make reservations on their website or Open Table.

  2. Philosophy Renewed Hope in a Jar: FRIENDS. Stop what you are doing right now and go get this stuff. Seriously. Like right now. I am OBSESSED and you will be too. So, here’s the deal, I went to the Ulta the other day looking for something to help clear up my congested face. I wasn’t breaking out exactly, but my face was just a weird combo of dry and oily and never felt quite clean enough. Mostly, this is because the seasons are changing and my skin is changing, and I’m getting old. Blah, blah, blah. Anyway, the amazing consultant at Ulta threw this at me (not literally) and said “THIS is the answer to your prayers.” Guys. It is. You rub this blue mousse-like substance on your dry face and rub for a minute. As you do, you’ll start to feel it as it balls up all of the dead skin and yuck right under your fingers. It’s weird and oddly satisfying to watch these little balls of skin form and roll around. Gross. But awesome at the same time. Then, when you rinse, it’s like baby skin under the surface has been exposed and your entire face is happy. It’s INCREDIBLE. You need it. I don’t have any substitutes. I don’t have any cheaper versions. This is worth it. I’ll be adding it to my Skincare Favorites shortly, but for now, you can (and should) grab yours HERE.

  3. Cool Mist Humidifier: When Snowmagaddeon hit Texas this winter and our temperatures were running in the negatives, the constant firing of the heating system threw my skin into Sahara Desert territory. It was flaky, itchy, and dry all over. Luckily, my hoarder tendencies were in full effect when I was packing up the kids’ baby stuff years ago so I was able to locate our ancient humidifier (shaped like an elephant, if you must know) to help rectify the situation. I ran it in the living room the entire duration of Snowmagaddeon and we all were grateful, so much so that after the snow melted and temps returned to normal, I decided to keep the magic going and transplanted my little elephant friend to the bedroom so I can sleep in a jungle-like environment that is clearly better for my skin. Now, not everyone needs a humidifier shaped like an elephant (though it would be cool if you did) but the benefits of running a humidifier in your house or bedroom are numerous and compelling. If you’ve got itchy skin, live in a dry climate (hello Texas in the summer) or suffer from asthma or other breathing problems, I highly recommend running one. Grab this non-elephant one HERE.

  4. Embrace Action: This local non-profit is near and dear to my heart because it was founded by one of my dear friends, Kaanji Irby, in reaction to the senseless murder of George Floyd and the mounting racial unrest in our country in the spring and summer of 2020. Kaanji and her team created Embrace Action with a commitment to work with other parents and groups in our community (and beyond) to shine a light on racial inequities and to formulate strategies and solutions to empower our future leaders to be vocal advocates for racial justice and equality. Since then, EA has held countless workshops designed to help participants recognize and overcome biases, educate parents on how to talk to their children about race, and, most recently, held a diverse book drive in our community which resulted in 3,800 books being distributed to local schools. Next up? Reading Challenges and more workshops all designed to help nurture families and individuals committed to learning about racism and inequality. Please give them a follow on both IG and FB. I promise you’ll learn something, be engaged, and find help taking the next steps towards a better future for ALL of our children.

Friends, I hope you find something on one of these lists to dig. I hope your week is finding you joy-filled and hopeful. And I’m so glad you keep showing up and trusting me to find you new things to fall in love with. I’m forever grateful for you, friends. Truly I am.

Peace, love, and Wednesdays,
Meg
