What I’m Digging Wednesday 4.6

what i'm digging wednesday 4.6

Hey Folks, welcome to everyone’s favorite day of the week–Wednesday and everyone’s favorite BurntToast segment, What I’m Digging Wednesday 4.6.

This one is very, shall we say, “spring is in the air” motivated and I’m happy to say that the weather is finally cooperating so it makes sense for me to share a warm-weather-focused list. In this one, we’ve got the “mom” jeans I can get behind, a set of plant pots too cute to pass up, a book for your hippie soul, and a super-flattering dress everyone needs.

Here’s to hoping you find something in here to love and that spring is bringing you a sweet new breath and light-filled energy, too.

what i'm digging wednesday 4.6

  1. Old Navy High Waisted Straight Jeans: This weekend my millennial cousin taught me what the word Cheugy means. Without going into too much mind-numbing and elder-degrading detail, I’ll just explain that chuegy means someone who is untrendy, out-of-date, and trying too hard. So, basically, anyone over the ripe old age of 25 or who wears full shirts in the hopes of covering up their navels. Yikes. Y’all, I am super cheugy. I’m sure of it. Upon further dissection, Melissa informed me that cheugy is one of those things that’s hard to explain but you know it when you see it. Mostly, according to her, when you see skinny jeans and booties. Like, jegging skinny. Apparently. So, ladies, no matter how hard we’re clinging on to those unflattering little sausage-casing denim death traps, maybe it’s time to give them up. I know. I know. It’s not easy. We were straight denim in the 90s through the halls of our high schools and it’s hard to go back. But being cheugy is not appealing to me. Therefore, I’m choosing to un-cheugy myself by stepping lightly away from the skinnies. Good thing I found these Old Navy Mom Jeans. They’re like the gateway drug for straight legs and have helped me immensely. Flattering with the high waist, with just the right amount of rips so they don’t look exactly like my mom is wearing them (no offense, Mom, you rock), these are a great tentative dip into the straight-leg pool. The price is great too because we all know you don’t drop a hondo on-trend items until you’re ready to commit fully. So here we go. These are also featured in the Spring Capsule Wardrobe from Outfit Formulas, so if you’ve been on the fence about joining us–DO IT! It’s not too late and it’s so much fun un-cheugy-ing ourselves, together. Grab your jeans HERE and sign up for Outfit Formulas HERE.

  2. Set of 4 Small Succulent Planters: It’s no secret to anyone I’m a huge plant nerd. It fits in well with my inner hippie, it is fun, and obsessing about whether or not my Monstera is getting enough sun keeps me out of trouble. Somewhat. So, it stands within reason that I would also be obsessed with plant pots and planters and all the things that my darling little plants go in, right? Now, for the most part, I go with straight-up white planters. They’re easy, they go with everything, and the particular ones I use (find them HERE) have a great lip that prevents root rot while also eliminating drippage when watering. They’re wonderful, if not a little boring. So to keep my plant corner from being a snooze-fest, I like to jazz it up with some fun little planters with quirky plant lady sayings on them. My favorite says “I Wet My Plants,” and honestly, I can’t stop laughing at it. Now that particular pot came from Five Below, but this set is even better because it’s got FOUR great pots with fun sayings. I can’t even with these adorable little planters and love how they spice up plant town in many ways. Perfect gifts for your plant-obsessed friend/mom/wife and fun self-care purchase too, grab your pots HERE.

  3. How To Love The World Poems of Gratitude and Hope: When I was about 8 I wore an Earth Day shirt to Bible Camp and caused a major stir. Because apparently loving the Earth and loving Jesus didn’t quite gel back in those days. Luckily, I didn’t let it get to me and have since found a way to weave my love for Jesus into my love for this world that He created throughout my years. That being said, it’s not always popular and sometimes makes me feel like an outcast in certain circles. Luckily, I thrive in outcast land so that’s no biggie. The reason why I’m sharing this is that I’m finding myself more drawn to works of art and poetry that speak to this immense love and gratitude for the world at large and feel as if we all might benefit from a little shift to the left that way. This gorgeous little book of poetry is one of those works of art–a collection of words that stir my soul and connect me to my love of both the world and its creator. Filled with works by dozens of different artists, there is something in this book for everyone. I’ve taken to reading a few poems each morning alongside my devotions to help ignite a deep awakening of love and hope. After the two years we’ve all had, I think this is something that might be good for all humanity. Definitely a poetry book for people who might not even like poetry, this is for hungry souls that need something deeper rooting them to love and hope and grace. Grab it at your local library or HERE (but try the library or small bookshops first!).

  4. Casual Sleeveless Striped Dress: Ok. So I shared this dress a long time ago in a Spring Basics round-up so it’s not technically new to the BurntToast fam, but it’s so good and such a classic it deserves a repeat. At least in my opinion. Another dress that I’m using in my Spring Outfit Formula (shameless plug) this dress flatters every single body type and is fully lined. Yeah. I’m going to repeat that because it almost never happens anymore–it’s FULLY LINED, y’all. The front ruching covers up any unsightly middle-age belly issues you might have going on, and it’s just generally a great dress for both casual and slightly elevated spring/summer days and nights. I love to pair mine with wedges for a night out and a denim jacket and sandals (or sneaks) for a day around the house. It’s comfortable and easy and I adore this one. A must-have for every closet, it comes in a ton of different colors and is my absolute favorite basic summer dress. Grab yours HERE.
