What I’m Digging Wednesday 8.4

what i'm digging wednesday 8.4

Woah, y’all. I know I’m a week behind and that I totally missed a Wednesday last week. And I’m so sorry. Needless to say, starting my own biz and trying to grow social media for a few companies has taken precedent over BurntToast. Which has stunk. But. I’m back. I’m here. And this is what I’m Digging Wednesday 8.4.

In this fun list, I have the cookbook that has saved my lazy and tired behind these last few weeks of summer, the super-secret online derm where I get all my skin goodies, the TV show I’m binging right now because I can’t take one more second of the Olympic announcers, and the little black dress every single woman needs.

You’re going to love this list. I can feel it. But also, let me know what other types of things you want me to cover in this. No matter how busy I get with BurntToast Digital Media, I never want to stop doing recipes and lists and all the fun things you have come to expect from me over the years. So keep the suggestions coming and stay tuned. I’m just getting warmed up with fun things to bring your way.

what i'm digging wednesday 8.4

  1. SkinnyTaste Meal Prep Cookbook: Here in BurntToast world it is the last full week of summer vacation for the kids. This means two things: 1) everyone is bored and tired of each other and eating the same things over and over and 2) I am completely out of cares to give. Completely. Today I walked past an empty bag of Doritos on my guest bed, crumbs everywhere. And, y’all, I couldn’t even be bothered to clean it up. I am that far out of my mind. I just can’t. But, I was tired of takeout and these kids don’t ever stop being hungry, so I grabbed this cookbook from the library and oh-my-gosh, y’all, can I say GAME CHANGER? So far we’ve made stuffed bagels, Make-ahead egg sandwiches, Halal-cart chicken and white sauce (my fave), Soba noodles, Pork Tenderloin, and, tonight, ramen with the leftover pork. It’s so much a winner I just purchased it from Amazon and can’t wait to dive into the rest. Definitely worth the purchase! You’re going to love it. Grabs yours HERE.

  2. Apostrophe: This may come as a surprise to some of you, but I was not born with perfect skin. Nor do I have perfect skin today, but what I do have is an arsenal of good skincare products and a derm on-demand with Apostrophe. I have been going to my in-person derm forever, and still, do for things like mole checks (a necessity) and Botox (definitely not one). But over COVID I didn’t feel like going in person just to get a refill of my retinoid and Spironolactone, the acne meds I have been taking for basically ever. Enter in Apostrophe. In one of the few times FB marketing did not result in a purchase of ultimate disappointment, I saw an ad for this online derm service during one of my scrolls and decided to give it a try. It’s so simple, you have a consultation with a doctor online, he prescribes a treatment plan, you choose which parts of the plan you would like to use, pay for them through their pharmacy, and they ship them to you. You can get things on auto-fill, too, so if you have recurring prescriptions it’s a great way to get them filled conveniently without having to do to the pharmacy. I love it because it’s so easy and cost-effective, the $20 visit fee goes toward whatever prescription you buy, and evens out to less than a dermatologist visit, at least under my insurance. Perfect if you have a basic idea of what skincare you need, don’t have insurance, and just want to get your skin needs met without jumping through a million hoops. If you need more help, like you aren’t sure what you need or like the in-person experience, it’s probably not for you, though. Not a paid endorsement, just something I really like. Check it out HERE.

  3. Ted Lasso, Season 2. If you are anything like me, you are over the Olympic fever. OK, to be fair, I never had Olympic fever and was over it directly after the gymnastics all-around. Not related to Simone Biles, who I love and respect, I just had had it with the noise and the hype and the over-inflated entertainment value we place on sports and athletes. Anyway, Jeff is still heavy into team USA, moving fluidly between swimming and track and weird equestrian things that look pretty but seem hard. SO, while he is busy cheering loudly in the living room, I’m going to retreat into the bedroom and binge on the one tv show I’ve been able to watch straight through in the past decade. If you’re not familiar with Ted Lasso, you need to be. It’s charming. It’s funny. It’s witty and deep and a little screwball-y too. It’s everything I like in a show and worthwhile entertainment for everybody who is tired of the drama in the world and in our sports and just wants to be charmed and engaged. It’s available on Apple+.

  4. Black Lace Cocktail Dress from Amazon: Y’all, go out right now and get this dress. I don’t care if you don’t have anywhere fancy to wear it right now. If there is even the smallest chance on earth you will need a little black dress in the next year or so, do it! I wore this dress to my daughter’s gymnastics banquet this summer and OH MY GOSH….it’s such a great, classic dress I cannot say enough words about it. It’s flattering on every body type, with just enough structure to hold everything in without being too tight. It’s classy, no one on earth will know you got it for less than $50 on Amazon. And it’s timeless. I can envision wearing this ten years from now just as much as I can next month. For every woman out there that occasionally needs a fancy-ish dress this is one you need in your closet. Grab yours HERE.

Thank you all so much for hanging out with me every Wednesday and sharing some fun new things to dig. Next week is our last week of summer vacation here in North Texas and then we are back into the swing of things with school and sports and all the things. And while that is a lot, I’m also looking forward to the routine of the kids being at school each day. It will allow me for more consistency with my work so hopefully, I can start concentrating on BurntToast just as much as my other companies.

Peace, love, and Wednesdays,
Meg
