What I’m Digging Wednesday the EXTRA edition

what i'm digging wednesday the extra edition

Hey Friends! It’s been a HOT minute since I’ve done a What I’m Digging Wednesday. I am so sorry. To the three people who actually have missed this fun little segment. Life just got kind of crazy there with my new business and then, on top of that, the start of the school year. The combo of which has left me a little behind on all things BurntToast. Never fear, though, because this is not your ordinary Wednesday. It’s What I’m Digging Wednesday the EXTRA Edition.

In this EXTRA Edition, I’ve got double the fun and double the things I’m digging. Every category is covered. Nothing is left behind. These are all of the things I’ve been obsessing over these past few weeks and I’m very confident that you are about to find a new favorite amongst this list.

So without further adieu, here we go…

what i'm digging wednesday the extra addition

  1. Hudson Natalie Mid-Rise Straight Leg Jeans: We all know skinny jeans are “out” this season, but I’m not going to lie, I’ve had a hard time figuring out exactly what is IN, especially as a middle-aged woman who can’t necessarily do ‘mom jeans’ without looking like a, well, mom. So when I was roaming through the racks at Nordstrom Rack and found these Hudsons, I fell in love. They are skinny enough that I’m not quite in the straight or tapered leg mom-jean realm, but they definitely fit the bill of not skintight all the way down like a jegging. I wear these on repeat along with my Citizens of Humanity Premium Vintage Flares that I looked everywhere for to share with you, but alas, they are no available any longer. These are the perfect fall jean for boots or flats or tennies and I love how they fit. I highly recommend grabbing a pair so you feel “on trend” without feeling “trendy,” which is actually my fashion sweetspot. Grab yours HERE.

  2. Love on the Spectrum, Season 2 (on Netflix): If you are feeling down about humanity and want to watch something that you will literally smile like a dang fool at throughout every single episode, this is the show for you. So feel good. So sweet. So touching you will root for every single one of these amazing humans to find the love they want. A wonderful exploration into the world of autistic adults and their quest to find love, it will have you laughing out loud, crying, and ultimately cheering for these unlikely heroes every time. I double-dog dare you not to fall in love with Michael, too. He might be the best person on tv today. Now streaming on Netflix.

  3. Clovertree Superfruit Exfoliating Toner: I picked up this incredible little organic toner after a facial a few months ago and instantly fell in love. It’s filled with gentle and natural AHAs to exfoliate and brighten the skin, makes you feel a little tingly, and leaves your skin fresh, bright, and ready to soak up any and all the treatments you throw on after it. I love that it’s organic and the little brown bottle is pretty too, which is weird but important to me for some strange reason. The entire line of Clovertree is one I want to explore further because I’m so pleased with this product, but for now, I recommend switching to this one if you’re currently in the market for a new toner and want something natural and organic. 4. The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue: This book was, by far, my favorite read of 2021 thus far. It’s a big one, topping out around 450 pages but I barrelled through it. The story is so unique and so interesting–a young girl in the 1700s doesn’t want to get married and live a boring life so she makes a deal with the devil that she will live forever (or until she is done living) but that no one will remember her. It’s fascinating, wonderfully told and so unique I just fell in love. It’s a great escape novel for these times that feel heavy and dark. Not the easiest read, but a truly good one. As always, grab it from your local library or a small independent bookseller if you can.

  5. IT Cosmetics Lash Blow Out Mascara: MY HG mascara has been L’oreal Voluminous for decades. I even shared it in my Make-up Must-Haves a while back. But, shortly after that post went live I found this mascara and have not turned back. It’s a bit pricer, but to me, the results are so worth it. It lengthens and fills out my lashes, keeps the curl all day (which is where Voluminous always lets me down), and has biotin infused in it to promote lash growth. It’s easy to take off (just with soap and water) and since I started using it I’ve had a lot of people ask if my lashes are real. Since I’m way too lazy to put false lashes on, I guess that’s a sign that this tube really works. Grabs yours HERE.

  6. Mom Set Free Bible Study from Proverbs 31: Lately, my mom stress has been sky high. This school year, with high school for D and lots of unforeseen pressures for the other two, has been kicking my butt. I’ve been worried, stressed, taxed, and all sorts of emotional. This bible study, which I joined online through Proverbs 31 has been amazing for helping me realize that I don’t have to grapple so hard for control over the outcome of my children’s lives. Because ultimately, God has it. For a while, my bible study time had been a little lackluster and I was disengaged and uninspired, but with this study, I am excited to get started every morning and really look forward to how it shapes my heart a little more each day. And full confession: I’m not even doing the online part because I can never seem to get the time to respond to the questions they send out each week. Yet I’m still loving it and it’s feeding my soul, so that’s saying something. You can do this one anytime, alone (like me) or in a group. It’s a really good one for hurting moms hearts who are tired of trying to be “good” enough. Join HERE.

  7. LOFT Classic White Shirt: This fall I have decided to adopt a uniform. In the interest of ease and laziness, I am going to wear only a few things on rotation. A capsule wardrobe, if you will. The jeans I mentioned above, black tanks, tees and turtlenecks, and button-down shirts. I don’t know what there is about a classic white button-down, but whenever I wear one I feel ultimately very chic and classic with almost zero effort. I love this one from LOFT. It’s a generous boxier fit for a more casual look and fits long enough in the back to give rear coverage if you just do the front tuck. I love throwing it on with tailored jeans (like above), flats, hoops, and a classic belt. It’s an easy outfit formula to make me feel good, no matter where I’m going (or not). Also, don’t judge me if you see me wearing the same things over and over. It’s a look I’m going for. You’ve been warned. Grab yours HERE.

  8. Travel Man on Amazon Prime: This is such a guilty pleasure show. Our whole family loves to watch it together for totally different reasons. Richard Ayoade, the host, is the most dead-pan hilarious Brit I have ever watched. He is witty, caustic, has incredibly obscure pop culture references I love, and is just plain fun. His jokes usually go right over the kid’s heads, but Jeff and I love him. But, he also genuinely explores cool places, shows lots of cultures, and makes a pretty great non-Travel Channel travel show. Which I truly appreciate. For a bit of campy, sarcastic fun, I highly recommend watching a few episodes. He’s hilarious.

  9. UP House Brew #8: Let me tell you a little story about this coffee: One afternoon 7 UP team members (of which I am blessed enough to be a part of) blind taste-tested 21 different coffee roasts to pick the one we would serve our customers. All seven of us UNANIMOUSLY chose UP House Brew #8. This smooth, wonderful blend of coffee won by a unanimous landslide. It’s that good. Not to mention that it is fairtrade, small-batch, and fully organic. Which sets it apart from so many other coffees on the market. This is the coffee you get when you order a mug at the restaurant, but you can also take a bag home with you to have at your own convenience, with or without getting dressed in the morning. I have a bag that I grind every morning and it makes the most delicious cup. I savor this coffee and know that you will too. So go by my favorite spot if you’re local and grab a bag. You’re going to love it. I promise.

Thank you all so much for hanging around and giving grace even though it’s been ages since I’ve put out new material. You are truly the best community on the internet and I am so lucky to call you my own.

Peace, love, and Wednesdays,
Meg
