what I'm digging wednesday 5.12

Hey friends! Welcome to What I’m Digging Wednesday 5.12. In this edition, which might be the most random of all time, I’ve got the hat that makes people think I’m fashionable when really I’m just lazy and don’t like to fix my hair, a song I want my daughter to memorize and play on repeat for all the days of her life, one of the devotionals I use every single day, and a miracle cream that healed a major burn overnight (#truestory).

These are always fun, always a little random and weird, and most of all, just a unique way to connect with you on a level different than food. I love sharing just a teeny peek of what makes me tick even if it’s off the wall (I’m looking at you, plant book from last week). It helps bring us closer. So thanks for joining me on this journey each week. It astounds me how many of you click through (I can see it, btw) and I LOVE that you’re loving it.

Now, without further adieu here we go…

  1. Wool Fedora Wide Brim Buckle Hat: Lately, I’ve had a few pictures randomly taken when I’m wearing this hat. Out at a dinner for a good friend, at a fun little girl’s day photoshoot for HeartStories, and at a local wine fest. Invariably, when I share a pic with it on someone compliments me and tells me how cute it is and how “on point” it looks. I, of course, soak this up and let it feed my fragile fashion ego, all the while never letting on that I’m actually wearing it because I hate to fix my hair. Here’s the deal, friends, my hair is a beast to blow dry. It looks straight and all, but there is a TON of it. It’s like an arm workout in itself just to get it dry and straight. And in the summer (or when it’s anything other than freezing outside) this results in so much sweat and heat from the blow dryer that I might as well take another shower over again. So, I only wash my hair like once a week. It’s not gross, by the way, because my hair is used to it. But, by day 5 it’s kind of just flat and blah. ENTER THE HAT. Y’all, this hat has taken me from drab to fab (Yes, I went there) on so many occasions I lost count. Perfect for any outfit because it’s so neutral. Easy to wear. Fits any look. It’s a NEED for all of us lazy girls who hate to wash our hair and even those who don’t. Grab yours HERE.

  2. P!nk: All I Know So Far: My beautiful friend Lindsey sent me this song with just these words “For Our Girls.” And y’all, even though I’m a bit of a music snob, this hits different as a girl mom. Every line of this song is what I want for my girl, what we all want for our daughters. As moms and as women, we know how challenging this world can be to navigate and stay true to ourselves. We know the pressures, we know all the way the world will tell us we are wrong and we need to change. We know our girls will make mistakes. We know how deep the pain cuts. But we also know the goodness that can come. We want them to walk big and proud and just as they are. Pink captures it all in this song. I could listen to it on repeat for hours and get emotional every single time. It speaks of a Mother’s love. Of her hopes for her kids. It speaks of love. Listen to it, y’all. Even if you’re like “ew, Pink?” Do it. Listen to the words. Think of your kids. And be prepared to cry. Find it anywhere you stream your music.

  3. First 5 App: Every morning at 5:30 my alarm goes off. I shuffle out of bed, try not to walk into walls in my exhaustion, feed the dog, make some coffee and then traipse upstairs to my little office for my morning devotionals. I have quite a few devotional books that I cycle through, but the one constant in my rotation is the First 5 App. A friend and past co-worker turned me on to it years ago and it is still my go-to for Bible time. Friends, even if you’re new to devotionals and feel like you don’t have time or don’t know where to start, try it. With tons of plans to choose from, you can either go subject-specific (like hard times, grief, etc) or you can choose a plan that walks you through one of the books of the Bible, one chapter a day. These are my favorites and I always choose a book I wouldn’t normally read and love how each day gently walks me through even the hardest chapters. Right now I’m doing a study of Exodus and even though some of the chapters in this book are mind-numbingly hard to read (I mean, what even is a cubit?), every devotional makes it relatable to life and teaches me more than I would ever expect. I highly recommend downloading the app and might even do a little First 5 challenge on Insta if enough of you want to tackle a plan together with me. (hint, hint). Download on the APP store and let me know what plan you choose.

  4. Joshua Tree Healing Salve: Ok, so this is a weird one, I know. But bear with me. My daughter is a gymnast. And as a gymnast, she gets these nasty callous/bloody blisters on her hands from hours and hours of bar work. Her coach recommended this healing salve last year and we’ve loved how it helps heal these messy wounds overnight (which is important because she doesn’t have days to heal in-between “beatings”). Which is great and all, but not useful to me. Until, the other night when I accidentally grabbed a metal spoon that had accidentally been placed on a hot griddle and burned the living daylights out of my thumbs and forefinger. I’ve had enough major kitchen burns to know that this one was a doozy and was about to become a huge blister and major issue for days to come. Except, as Kenzie was rubbing the salve into her hands before bed and covering them with tape, I decided to do the same for my burns just in case it could help. Y’all, my burn was completely healed in the morning. No blister, just the slightest bit of tenderness. It was freaking MAGIC. Now I know it seems weird to include it in my list just because of one little burn, but this salve is good for cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, burns, all the things. PLUS, it’s organic and has nothing crazy or scary in it so I feel safe putting it my own skin AND my kids. I highly recommend having a tub of this stuff on hand just in case. Probably good for sunscreen and rough heels, too. Just saying. Grab some. It lives up to its name. Get it HERE.

Thanks for sticking with me for this random list. And do me a favor, now that we’re a few months into this What I’m Digging Wednesday thing, I’d love to know what you’ve picked up from my list. Have you found something you dig too? A new favorite? Something to love you wouldn’t have known about otherwise? I’d love to hear. Tag me on socials in a pic or drop me a line. I want to make this interactive to keep the comments coming! It’s so much fun.

Peace, love, and Wednesdays,
Meg
