What I’m Digging Wednesday 5.5

what i'm digging wednesday 5.5

Hey y’all, welcome to this week’s edition of What I’m Digging Wednesday 5.5. I am excited about this one because it’s a little bit of a hybrid list, things both that I’m digging but also ones that I think mom might like (or even need) this Mother’s Day. Now I know I shared my full thoughts on what mom really wants on this Hallmark holiday last week in my Mother’s Day post (go back and read if you haven’t yet–it might surprise you). But, I also think that presents are fun and sometimes unique things hit the mark.

So, in this list, I’ve got a fun little make-up hero that takes my skin from winter to summer like a boss, an electric kettle that has finally helped me bridge the gap from coffee to tea, a book everyone else but me thinks is lame, and a Mother’s Day Meditation (virtual) retreat perfect for giving mom a few minutes of mindfulness before this holiday weekend.

So here we go…

  1. Drunk Elephant D-Bronzi Anti-Pollution Sunshine Drops: Ok. So first of all, if you don’t know Drunk Elephant yet, you probably should. Not just a catchy and entertaining name,  it is also an amazing skincare line. The whipped cream moisturizer saves my dry skin every winter and the Babyfacial, while pricey, has a cult following for a reason. It’s MAGIC. But, right now, I want to talk about these little D-Bronzi drops. What the heck does that even mean, you ask? Well, it’s just a fancy name for this pearlescent bronze liquid I put in my foundation each spring and summer to help it adjust as I get more color in my face and go from deathly pale to a little less deathly pale. There is a two-fold benefit to this magic liquid–the pearlescence gives me a little extra glow (which at 42 is welcome and necessary) and it helps me from having to get double colors of multiple different foundations. Does it protect me from pollution? Well, I really don’t know that. But it protects my wallet and it’s fun and I love the company. So I’m definitely digging it, and so should you. Grab yours HERE.

  2. Silver Lining Wishes 3-day It’s Almost Mother’s Day Mini-Retreat: I “met” Colleen from Silver Lining Wishes through Instagram and she is one of those online friends that I think the internet was specifically created for because, without it, I would never be lucky enough to know her. I  adore her and know we would be besties in real life. On top of that, she is someone you should all know because of her incredible heart for women and connection and mindfulness. In the spirit of this heart, she said she felt “called to gather women together to take a moment of peace and love amidst the chaos.” In this year where everything has felt so hard and so difficult and fractured, I, for one, am so drawn to this idea I can’t even wait for her to begin. This 3-day virtual meditation mini-retreat is completely free and even if you’ve never meditated a day in your life I recommend you give this a shot. OR, share it with a mom you know would love it, one who might not be celebrated as much as she deserves or who has been shouldering the burden of 2020-21 on her own. She deserves it. So do you and I hope to see you there. Sign up HERE.

  3. My House Plant Saved My Life: So this is a controversial pick because my husband thinks I am the only person on the face of this earth who would ever pick this book up, much less open it and read a page. In fact, when I brought it home from the library he said (and I quote) “well, clearly you’ve read every other book in the library and this is the only one left because no one would ever intentionally read that on purpose.” So, of course, I turned to the power of the gram and polled my followers to see if he was right and I am, in fact, crazy, or if it’s normal to read books about house plants. The results of that poll are still pending. Anyway, if you read my Earth Day post, you know I’m sorta kinda obsessed with house plants at the moment. Which is great, but sometimes I kill them on accident. So this book, which is a highly simplified sort of “house plants for dummies” thing, helped me bring my sword ferns back from the brink of death and has helped me pick out the next houseplants I’ll be adding to Plant Town (if you know you know). A fun little gift for the house plant lover in your life or the perfect self-gift for someone who wants to get into the houseplant game but doesn’t quite know where to start. Grab it from your local bookseller or your local library.

  4. Cuisinart Electric Tea Kettle: Ok, so if you’ve been following me for a while you know that I used to have a hate-hate relationship with tea. Not unlike Ted Lasso, I always felt it tasted like dirty armpit water. And while some teas, do, in fact, still taste like dirty armpit water to me, I have been able to find a few that I like. Mostly thanks to my aunt who gave me samples of the roughly 7,257 teas she keeps on hand and helped me hone in on the kind that I like (Tazo Zen and Stash Jasmine Green, if you must know). Once I fell in love with tea, my husband who sometimes will magically buy something out of the blue to surprise me and make my life easier, ordered this baby to show up at my door. It boils water in a flash, brings it to the perfect temp, and is all-around easier than a stovetop kettle. As an added bonus, I can use this to flash boil large amounts of water for pasta or ramen when I’m in a hurry and it’s perfect for those cup of noodles my kids love that I’m sure are slowly killing them 1 million deaths with every bite. Whatever, I pick my battles. So if you love tea, know a tea lover (ahem…Mom), or just really like kitchen gadgets that make things fast, this is a fun grab that I’m absolutely digging. Snag yours HERE.

As always, friends, thank you so much for showing up for this fun segment. Sometimes I feel like you’re just indulging me, but others, I hear from you that it’s actually really fun and you look forward to Wednesday. Who knew? Anyway, if you know someone who has a business or a product I should be digging into, drop me a line. My favorite part of this whole thing is sharing the amazing things people are doing and creating.

Peace, love, and Wednesdays,

Meg
