What I’m Digging Wednesday 5.19

what i'm digging wednesday 5.19

Hey friends, welcome to What I’m Digging Wednesday 5.19. In this list I have a board game that’s wickedly fun and possibly the cause of multiple family brawls in our house, the sunglasses I’ve been wearing since 2011, the box subscription service I recently gave a second chance to and am happy I did it, and a family move we ALL loved, top to bottom.

I’m certain you’ll find something here you’ll love so without further adieu….what i'm digging wednesday 5.19

  1. Catan: So we are careful about board games in our house. Given the tenuous mix of uber-competitive personalities we have, we’ve got to be choosy about what we allow into our mix lest we end up in Civil War. So when Catan, a Risk-esque strategy game focusing on establishing trade routes and building civilizations came in, we were cautious at best. But one rainy Sunday we decided to give it a go and I’m so glad we did. Sure, I threatened to quit three times, threw the dice once, maybe called Jeff a bad name for smack-talking for dayz, and my boys almost went to fistacuffs. But it was all in the name of good fun. Seriously, though, this game is a blast for the entire family. It involves all of the strategic decisions of RISK without the time investment which excludes those with a short attention span (read: me) from ever playing. I highly recommend it for families who want to find something to do to get their teens to look up from the phones and engage again. It’s so much fun. Grab your game HERE.

  2. Ray-Ban Petite Aviators: If you’ve never seen me in real life there are a few things you need to know: 1) I am shorter than you probably think 2) I have almost childishly small hands and 3) my face is SMALL. Which is weird, right? How does one even know their face is small? Is there a scale or something? OK. Fair questions. I know my face is small because when I worked at Saks during the height of the Nicole Richie bug glasses phenomenon, I would try sunglasses on in the accessories department as a pseudo-comedy/freak show to make my co-workers laugh. Seriously, you haven’t seen weird until you’ve seen me in a pair of normal size sunglasses. My teeny tiny face just can’t do it. This is why Ray-Ban’s line of petite glasses is such an answer to prayer. Designed for us small-faced folks, they are the only glasses I’ve found that fit my face and don’t look ridiculous doing it. Now, I am a classics girl. Just like with my jewelry, I don’t change it up much. So these Aviators have been my go-to for decades (yes, I said decades). I don’t deviate. I don’t switch. Boring? Maybe. But it works. So small face ladies and gents, grab yourself a pair of these. You’ll be glad you did. Snag yours HERE.

  3. StitchFix: Back when my kids were small and I was working part-time I was a StitchFix devotee. I loved not having to pack my kids up, drag the stroller out and head to the mall to get new clothes. Then, for a while, I was over it. I didn’t think the styles worked for me. My favorite stylist “retired,” and I just felt too cool for the whole deal. Well, I don’t know if I’ve evolved or they have (or maybe both) but I’m back solidly on team StitchFix and think you all need to be too. In the past two months, I’ve had two Fixes and have kept everything in both, which is unheard of. Now, to be fair, my stylist is my cousin who actually knows me in real life and knows what I like and what I don’t, but I’m not sure if that’s what is better. They have this new preview option which allows you to hand-pick your Fix from a large grouping of potential looks your stylist has pulled for you. So I felt like I was online shopping with a little extra help. Great for basics (I snagged the perfect white jeans and a bunch of cute but simple summer tops) and some special things (like the dress I’m going to wear for family pics this summer), I highly recommend giving them a try, even if you weren’t feeling it the last time you did. They’ve changed. And maybe so have you. Schedule your fix HERE (and I’ll get a little referral bonus if you do).

  4. The Mitchells Vs. The Machines: We are all about the family movie in our house. Some of my most precious moments are our couch dates. We wind down every evening to our “shows” and try to pick things everyone will love. We’ve cycled through quite a few kid-centered shows like “The Mighty Ducks,” “Big Shot,” and “A Series of Unfortunate Events.” And have worked through lots of movies too. We watched this one over the weekend when it was monsooning in Dallas and we were all holed up together in the house. And y’all, it is HILARIOUS. I loved every second of it, laughed so much it was probably uncalled for, and even cried a bit at the end. Everyone loved it, from the adults to the youngest kid and it’s the perfect family movie for a bonding night. No matter how old or young your kids are, they’ll probably find something to love in this one so I highly recommend it. Available on NETFLIX.

Y’all, this is one of my favorite lists I’ve ever pulled together. I truly love everyone on it and want to know what you love too? Think Catan is the best family game ever? Snap a pic of your family playing it and tag me. Love you some StitchFix? Let me know! I want to gather what your favorites are so I can put together a BEST of list for the ages.

Peace, love, and Wednesdays,
Meg
